Aurélien FLATRES, PhD

Translational research manager @ Abivax

About

Attracted by the understanding of various physiological dysfunctions, I followed a research training with a Bachelor and a Master degree in the field of physiopathology. Then, during my PhD, I had the chance to work on an ambitious project combining clinical studies and tissue engineering techniques about skeletal muscle weakness. I currently work at Abivax, a french company which is developing Obefazimod (international phase 3 program), a promising drug to fight autoimmune inflammatory diseases. With my colleagues I'm in charge of translational research activities coordinating the different CROs involved.

My work is focus on the management of all the CROs involved in translational research for different Abivax clinical studies (from phase 1 to phase 3). Theses CRO are : - In charge of central laboratory (phase 3 program, over 1200 patients scheduled) - In charge of biobanking (more than 45 000 samples stored) - In charge of all biological analysis : cytokines level measurement, histopathology scoring, DNA-RNA quantification (over 35 000 samples expected for phase 3 only) - In charge of statistical analysis (for 3 clinical trials) I'am also dedicated to two others key responsabilites : - Monitor the appropriateness of the rules relating to the biological samples (CGP, GCLP, clinical study protocol...) - Propose new biological analyses to develop an innovative drug to the market (Obefazimod program)

As young researcher following a PhD training program in regenerative medicine, my objective was to bring new knowledge about muscle regeneration dysfunction observed in intensive care patient. My thesis project had a double goal. The first was to assess the potential of a new diagnostic ultrasound method on a cohort of 100 patients. The second was to develop a diagnostic tool for modeling skeletal muscle (organoids field) using tissue engineering techniques. I published two articles and succeeded in developing a first prototype of muscle organoids.
