Synthesis and characterization of organic proligands and coordination complexes; Common techniques used include: air sensitive organic and inorganic synthesis using standard Schlenk line techniques, microwave synthesis, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, ESI mass spectrometry, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, emission spectroscopy (including near-IR detection), picosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (solution and solid state) and time-correlated single-photon counting emission lifetime measurements. Some experience with: infrared spectroscopy, electrochemistry, powder X-ray diffraction, fluorescence microscopy and two-photon microscopy.
