Case Manager
Locks of Love
West Palm Beach, Florida Area
As the Case Manager, I was responsible for guiding the 21-and-under recipients through the process of applying for a prosthetic hairpiece by reviewing and analyzing their request. I also represented the organization in written and oral communications with the recipients, contractors, and health-care providers. In between the application and reapplication processes, I maintained vigilant contact with the children and their families. As a liaison, I communicated with the various manufacturing companies through the development of the synthetic wigs and the custom-made, vacuum-seal hair prostheses. After a family has applied, I worked to establish contact with the referring doctors, so that we can continue to work with them, if they have children with long-term or permanent hair loss in the future.

Volunteer Coordinator
Locks of Love
West Palm Beach, Florida Area
I was in charge of recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling, and supervising volunteers locally and nationally, while drawing on the talents and abilities of the individual volunteers. I acted as the liaison between the volunteer portion of the organization and the staff. A large portion of the position involves providing information to salons and organizations around the world who wish to assist us in achieving the mission of the organization and helping them to register as individuals and groups and prepare for and hold fundraisers on behalf of Locks of Love. I also prepared the incoming monetary donations once separated from the hair donations. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
