WELCOME AT DRONEPORT! Where we make things happen at the intersection of Cities, Ports, and Airports. DronePort Rotterdam originated as a concept between Arthur Dallau and Niels Kalshoven, both active in the field of Innovative Air Mobility and frequently approached with questions regarding the organisation and integration of drones into existing systems. While exploring the challenges of everyday scenarios, it quickly became apparent to both gentlemen that there was a lack of an overarching strategy that addressed this complexity. A strategy was needed that encompassed the entire mobility ecosystem and all its layers to strengthen the system. By mapping out the various components, the concept of vertical integration, one of the pillars of DronePort, was soon realised. Collaborating with a multitude of stakeholders highlighted the critical need for developing solutions for the port, city, and airport. In the Rotterdam region, it is vital that these hubs collaboratively develop crucial infrastructure, enabling autonomous uncrewed assets to integrate into the mobility and transport system. DronePort Rotterdam envisions a future where the integration of drones and other autonomous and uncrewed systems into the European airspace is not just a possibility, but a reality that drives economic growth, ensures safety and security, and promotes sustainability. Europe focuses on a twin green and digital transition, DronePort Rotterdam positions itself as a key-enabler of this transformation, harnessing the capabilities of autonomous and uncrewed assets to expedite the decarbonisation and digital transformation of the comprehensive transport and mobility system.

Ons doel is om een brugfunctie te vervullen tussen Nederlandse organisaties en Europa en hen in staat te stellen Europese ontwikkelingen te begrijpen en succesvol te implementeren. Met ons werk streven we ernaar dat Nederlandse organisaties niet alleen voldoen aan deze ontwikkelingen, maar ook kansen benutten om toekomstige wet- en regelgeving positief te  beïnvloeden. Ons ultieme doel is de kloof te dichten tussen Nederlandse organisaties en Europa, het bevorderen van wederzijds begrip, samenwerking en groei om Nederlandse organisaties te voorzien van de benodigde kennis , kunde en netwerk om actief deel te nemen en vorm te geven aan het Europese landschap. INSPIR8ION has joined the EIT Urban Mobility network as member of the Special Interest Group on Urban Air Mobility. Together with EIT Urban Mobility HQ and the Hub West we will work on connecting governments, industry, knowledge institutions and society, and introduce, validate and scale uses cases in relation to Urban Air Mobility. Furthermore, we will focus on creating the right business conditions to ensure the sustainable development of Urban Air Mobility, and promote a safe and secure integration of UAM in cities and regions across Europe. EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. EIT Urban Mobility is a growing pan-European partnership bringing together businesses, education, research excellence institutions and multifaceted cities. Its aim is to facilitate and fund the collaboration between these players to create mobility solutions that will accelerate the transition towards more liveable urban spaces.

The “United for Smart Sustainable Cities” (U4SSC) is  a UN initiative coordinated by ITU and UNECE and supported by CBD, ECLAC, FAO, ITU, UNDP, UNECA, UNECE, UNESCO, UN Environment, UNEP-FI, UNFCCC, UN-Habitat, UNIDO, UNU-EGOV, UN-Women and WMO to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 11: "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable". U4SSC serves as the global platform to advocate for public policy and to encourage the use of ICTs to facilitate and ease the transition to smart sustainable cities.

English To realize the full potential of drones and future passenger transport by air (Urban Air Mobility) for the Netherlands, smart and sustainable solutions will have to be developed. Developing these solutions requires close cooperation and the will to innovate together by doing. That is why leading parties have joined forces and founded the Dutch Drone Delta. The coalition consists of partners who have the necessary knowledge, skills, experience and strength to realize applications with drones and to work on the future of Urban Air Mobility. The Dutch Drone Delta includes the following partners: KLM, Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL), Schiphol, Port of Rotterdam, KPN, NS, ANWB, Umanned Valley, Transavia, NLR, a.s.r. General Insurance, Moving Dot, RAI, Connekt, Antea Group, Space53, NLR, Achmea, AirHub, Rijkswaterstaat, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, City of Amsterdam and INSPIR8ION. Nederlands Om de volledige potentie van drones en het toekomstige personen vervoer door de lucht (Urban Air Mobility) voor Nederland te realiseren zullen slimme en duurzame oplossingen moeten worden ontwikkeld. Het ontwikkelen van deze oplossingen vraagt om nauwe samenwerking en de wil om samen te innoveren door te doen. Daarom hebben toonaangevende partijen de handen ineengeslagen en de Dutch Drone Delta opgericht.

FLYING FORWARD 2020 Creating the 21st Century Spatial Ecosystem Flying Forward 2020 is a three-year collaborative research project that will develop a new Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ecosystem aligned with the Digital Government Transformation (DGT) of European countries, which focuses on incorporating Urban Air Mobility within the geospatial data infrastructure of cities. Building and incorporating all related data from UAM infrastructures and operations within the digital infrastructure of cities will allow helping society to fly forward in a safe, secure and effective way. This will make life easier, cheaper and provide more opportunities by getting products faster and more efficiently across Europe. FF2020 offers an entire state-of-the-art geospatial UAM ecosystem which includes a governance model and framework (interoperable and scalable); regulatory framework (machine readable and executable); geospatial digital infrastructure (technology agnostic digital toolbox); Identity of Things Scheme (identity framework for operators, drones and authorities); and interoperability frameworks (technical, semantic, legal, policy and organisational) – which fully comply with existing EU-regulation and yet challenges these regulations by providing new insights. EUROCITIES was founded in 1986 by the mayors of six large cities: Barcelona, Birmingham, Frankfurt, Lyon, Milan and Rotterdam. Today, we bring together the local governments of over 140 of Europe's largest cities and over 45 partner cities, that between them govern 130 million citizens across 39 countries. Digital solutions empowered by data produced in our cities are key to solve many of the most urgent urban challenges including sustainable urban mobility, energy efficiency, housing, healthcare, reducing digital divide while leverage economic growth for all ecosystem players. Over a decade, several smart and sustainable solutions have been developed and tested in our cities. However, limited resources, legal and governmental barriers, technological skills shortage, lack of common methodology and innovation potential prevent or hinder the large upscale and uptake of those solutions - such as interoperable digital platforms and services - in Europe, preventing citizens to benefit from more innovative, high-quality and cost-effective services. To fill this gap, EUROCITIES launched the Knowledge Society Forum (KSF). Joining forces with the European Commission, member states, the European Committee of the Regions and the main organisations and networks of cities to boost sustainable digital transformation in cities and communities in the EU and develop of a methodology to scale existing digital solutions between cities. We call this the KSF LAB. In 2020 the KSF LAB launches its first pilot project: The Citizen Card. The project is aimed at developing and scaling up the Zaragoza and Gijon’s models of a citizen card as instrument for cities to provide inclusive digital solutions to their citizens. The card is a scalable solution which enables the city and businesses to add extra services on the ‘platform’.
