Designed and instructed a semester-long Amharic language and culture course for 14 students, emphasizing conversational proficiency and deepening understanding of Ethiopian culture through interactive and hands-on learning methods.

Advised a specialized linguistics class of 10 students on the syntax, phonetics, and grammar of Amharic, supporting the development of elicitation data and the construction of a comprehensive mini-reference grammar.

- Developed and conducted 10 ethnographic interviews to learn about teachers’ classroom experiences and get their feedback on RAISE, an Algebra I digital courseware. - Created low-fidelity designs in Slides and Jamboard for testing during interviews and on usertesting.com. - Analyzed data to support sound product decisions about feature prioritization and create content for integration into RAISE.

- Created an automated tagging system to build a digital courseware and research platform containing multimedia learning resources. - Co-authored a research paper about using large language models to generate metadata for math questions that was part of the Workshop on Empowering Education with LLMs - the Next-Gen Interface and Content Generation 2023 - Performed manual metadata tagging on data with over 35 columns and 340 rows in Excel

I worked as a Software Tester at Moneta Technologies for two months where I conducted both manual and automated tests to ensure the functionality and usability of the company’s upcoming e-commerce site in all web, mobile web and application platforms. I conducted a total of thirty tests and was able to single out several major and minor flaws that were reported to the developers to fix. I also translated words and phrases that appear on the three platforms from English to Amharic and integrated them into the design using CS Cart. In addition to learning testing mechanisms, I was able to develop my reporting and communication skills as well as understand the foundations of product management by working under the channel manager.

The Young Computer Scientist Internship was a four day long Internship where we explored the different aspects of a Computer Scientist. We created a web app, carried out online penetration testing on a 'secure' system, prevented a cyberattack, worked alongside arificial intelligence experts to build machine learning models to maximize profits for a business, got coached by highly successful professionals on how to break into this rewarding and competitive career and networked with top professionals in the industry who gave us advice and answered our questions. We gained a truly immersive experience of life as a software engineer, data scientist and cybersecurity professional.

I worked as a Salesperson for a week at WebSprix IT Solutions PLC through an internship program organized by my school. I was able to get the company a couple of permanent customers who use their Internet provision service. I was also able to get them a promotion at ICS as online school started and people were looking for a reliable Internet provision. This experience taught me practical skills in marketing. I also acquired great communication and collaboration skills.

A minor in Business and a certificate in Engineering Leadership. My major concentration is in the field of Human-Factors (HF), Human-Computer Interaction, and User Experience (UX).

A week in the month of June, we learned about offensive hacking. Topics covered include the concept of "red teams", setup of virtualization environment for penetration testing, setup of Kali Linux along with various tools: Nmap, Zenmap, Wireshark, and Maltego among others. A week in the month of July, we learned about defensive hacking. Topics covered include the concept of “blue teams”, setup of a virtualization environment for threat assessment testing, an overview of attack vectors, including brute force, denial of service, scans, backdoor attacks, concepts and methods for mitigation of risk, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and intrusion prevention systems and using scanning tools like Nmap, Wireshark, and others to protect a network.

A 4-day academic and leadership program where we engaged with various academic disciplines through hands-on learning and workshops within the context of the African-American cultural experience, completed a service-learning project with the university, and engaged in fun team-building activities.
