Ariel Hao

Chosen as one of the distinguished New Colombo Plan Ambassadors, I embarked on a transformative study exchange journey in Beijing, China. My primary objective was to enhance understanding of the Indo-Pacific region in Australia by facilitating study programs and internships for Australian undergraduates within the region. This experience has not only honed my cross-cultural proficiencies but has also provided me with profound insights into global economics. These insights, coupled with a broader perspective, have significantly enriched my capabilities as I aspire to forge a path as an economist dedicated to formulating impactful public policies.

Completed a 8 week internship program in the Transactional Banking, Payments and Cash Management Team. Gained wide variety of knowledge on institutional products including OSKO, PayTo, ANZ Fileactive and Transactive. Led and executed research project on the Global Usage of Real Time Payments across 6 countries, focusing on liquidity considerations and benchmarking Australia’s NPP (New Payments Platform). During this project I had the pleasure to work with International ANZ teams across Singapore, India and Hong Kong - emphasising the importance of cross border teamwork. Improved proficiency in data analysis through excel, successfully completing two projects on internal payments data.

Selected as the New Colombo Mobility Grant Ambassador (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), I am able to enrich my learnings in economics from a global perspective, studying public policy from a non-western view. My current enrolment involves subjects from a range of disciplines - Peking's School of Economics, National School of Development and Guanghua School of Management.
