Anurag Satpathy
Postdoctoral Research Fellow @ Missouri University of Science and Technology
About
I work as a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, USA under the supervision of Dr. Sajal K. Das. Prior to that I completed my Ph.D. in February 2023 from the department of Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India. My Ph.D. thesis focused on developing effective resource management strategies for highly dynamic virtualized data centers experiencing temporal fluctuations in resource demands. My interests lie in various domains of computer systems including cloud computing, network and server virtualization, and resource management for virtualized systems. Recently, my interest has also piqued in the area of serverless computing, specifically on the issue of cold start latency. I have also taken an active interest in developing effective computation offloading strategies for resource-constrained devices, catering to latency-sensitive IoT applications over edge/fog systems.

Experience

Research Intern
Raurkela, Orissa, India
Worked on solving the problem of virtual machine placement (VMP) and developed an efficient strategy to solve the VMP problem using a meta-heuristic crow-search algorithm (CSA). Additionally, different live-migration techniques were also integrated with the placement model and its comparative behavior was studied.

Cisco Project Trainee - Networking
Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India
Worked on the various routing protocols using cisco-certified simulation tools. Setting up an entire network, router configuration, and came up with conclusions to suggest the routing protocols to be opted depending on the network latency and traffics respectively for a particular setup scenario.
Education

Computer Science
Doctoral Thesis - Efficient Re-Embedding Strategies for Virtual Data Centers over Multi-Domain Substrate Networks. Description - The focal point of this thesis is to develop efficient re-embedding strategies for dynamic virtual data center (VDC) requests that often face resource demand fluctuations and require re-embedding. The overall objectives include developing SP-centric re-embedding strategies for reducing re-embedding costs and improving the utilization of substrate resources.

Computer Science
Masters Thesis - Virtual Machine Placement in Cloud Data Centers. Description - Developing efficient resource provisioning techniques for VMs using crow search-based meta-heuristic. The overall objective of the research is to optimize the power consumption and wasted resources at the data centers.
