My career in the care home supply business started with the humble toilet roll. While doing my A-levels, I read an article in our college newsletter about a growing problem on campus with toilet paper being wasted. As it happened, my father had started a side business supplying cleaning products as he was worried about the security of his day job. I seized the opportunity to help my father and my college. I approached the janitor and offered to supply toilet paper dispensers and jumbo rolls of paper. He agreed, and suddenly, I had my first order! It all grew from there. I didn’t have a car at the time, so I used to travel around industrial estates on my bike with a suitcase strapped to my back. This involved catching a train to nearby towns and then cycling from there. This continued until I finished college, which was when my father and I decided to focus solely on the Care industry. I joined Acticare because it provides the very highest levels of service in that industry – as standard practice. This is so important to me because I am deeply committed to helping care home owners and managers create the best, cleanest and sweetest-smelling environment for their residents. In 2021, we expanded our offering to include MODEN furniture. Seeing care homes thrive is my dream, and I can honestly say I get to live that dream every day. I love working with care homes helping them offer the best care while still saving money at the same time. We often, for example, see different homes within a group using different products in different ways. This makes it challenging to monitor costs and standards across the group. As the Business Development Manager, my team and I have helped groups save as much as 40%, significantly reduce the number of products they use, and noticeably improve overall levels of cleanliness.
