Undergraduate Research Assistant
As an undergraduate research assistant in the Department of Astronomy, I work under the guidance of Professor Zhou Yifan to analyze observational data on brown dwarfs and their host stars. My work involves using Python for data analysis to explore stellar and substellar properties (e.g., effective temperature, luminosity, radius, and composition) with the goal of understanding system age, formation processes, and atmospheric characteristics. In this role, my responsibilities include: Conducting research on the distribution and characteristics of M, L, T, and Y spectral type brown dwarfs, focusing on population trends across varying distance ranges from Earth. Leveraging Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib) for data cleaning, filtering, and visualization, including handling incomplete datasets and building clear, data-driven plots to uncover astrophysical patterns. Applying parallax measurements, light-year conversions, and spectral classification methods to transform raw astronomical data into meaningful scientific insights. Collaborating with research mentors to analyze trends and contribute to a broader understanding of nearby substellar objects, strengthening skills in scientific communication and data interpretation.

Take Out Waitress and Cashier
Memorized an extensive sushi and hibachi menu within two weeks, showcasing adaptability and quick learning skills. Recognized for accuracy, precision, and efficiency during peak hours, serving up to 80 customers per hour while maintaining a high standard of service. Managed takeout orders over phone, handling an average of 30-40 orders per hour, while maintaining a smooth flow in takeout line and ensuring 100% order accuracy. Communicated complex orders to a kitchen team of five, exhibiting effective teamwork and attention to detail to ensure customer satisfaction. NASA L’SPACE Mission Concept Academy Participant - Team Role: Astrobiologist
Participated in a virtual NASA workforce academy focused on space mission concept formulation through science, engineering, programmatic, and teaming skills. Successfully completed all of the skill modules including: risk and project management, heat transfer, and Siemens NX. Co-authored sections of over 400 pages of technical writing by applying the NASA mission life cycle, progressing through Mission Concept Review, System Requirements Review, Mission Definition Review, and Preliminary Design Review. Attended and actively engaged in weekly lectures led by NASA scientists, engineers, and program managers. Developed the mission’s science goals, objectives, and top-level success criteria by creating a science traceability matrix and performing payload selection. Collaborated with engineering sub teams to ensure CAD model accuracy and subsystem compatibility to meet mission science objectives. Independently created the CAD model for the robotic arm intended for integration into the rover system using Siemens NX, with design input and guidance from the lead systems engineer. Supported the identification of different types of mission risks such as payload instruments and environmental with the Programmatics team. Presented the final project to a panel of scientists and engineers.

Virginia Aerospace Science Technology Scholars(VASTS), NASA Langley Research Center
Completed an intensive, 24-week online STEM program requiring 10+ hours of weekly study, focusing on space exploration, aerospace engineering, and advanced physics concepts through bi-weekly technical reports and assignments. Submitted bi-weekly technical reports on space exploration topics, demonstrating strong research and analytical skills. Completed weekly space-related physics assignments, including calculating orbital paths and escape velocities, displaying the practical application of advanced physics concepts. Earned an A for the program, demonstrating strong performance in both technical coursework and practical applications.
