The State of Illinois West European Office is one of nine overseas offices operated by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The office, situated in Brussels has been set up since 1968, and is the second oldest office of an American state with representation in Europe. While in this position, I assisted in arranging meetings between clients from Illinois with potential distributors in Europe, researching and drafting briefings for policies relevant to our operations, and kept up with current events about US/EU relations. I held this position during my time studying abroad in Brussels. The work I did for this organization helped me gain hands on experience evaluating the U.S.-EU relationship, building upon, and providing real world experiences about what we were learning in the classroom.

Audio encoded educational documentaries and accounted for and audited inventory

* The Chamber’s European Affairs team champions pro-business trade and investment policies on both sides of the Atlantic, working with leaders in government and business to expand commercial opportunities for members by promoting open and competitive markets, economic growth, and transatlantic cooperation. In this role I was able to: * Conduct research on key issues and company prospects, draft event summaries, and monitor news/trends in Europe * Provide logistical and administrative support for events and travel to help ensure smooth operation of the department; * Assist with department communications and writing; and * Attend and report on think tank events, Capitol Hill briefings, and other programs related to US-EU trade and investment

* Perform quality assurance for webinar broadcasts * Track and compare advertising plans for various industry publications

* Performed secretarial duties and clientele relations * Researched and purchased advertising for MFA, MBA, and MPS programs

* Managed accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions * Performed quality assurance and inventory for vendor checks

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a United States Department of State cultural and educational exchange program which offers approximately 600 students from the United States the opportunity to participate in an intensive language study abroad. During my time in this position, I assisted in preparation for orientations and other meetings, handled visa and passport information, and reorganized the program's social media strategies. I held this position, along with my position at the Confederation of British Industry consistently throughout the summer of 2016, wherein my time split between the two organizations totaled 40 hours per week, and the fall of 2016, when I maintained both positions and took on a full course-load.

The Confederation of British Industry is a UK business organisation, which in total speaks for 190,000 businesses, made up of around 1,500 direct and 188,500 indirect members. Members include companies, many universities and other public bodies, as well as trade association members, from the perspective of their leadership. At the Washington, DC offices, which focuses on soft lobbying in order to represent the interests of British business in the US, it was my responsibility to update headquarters about developments in US policy that would effect our members, and keep a running list of articles published in the United States relevant to British politics.

For a month and a half I worked as an intern in the promotions department, calling listeners on the phone and working with promotions at several events held by the station.
