Retail, Distribution, and Coal Transition, Natural Gas and Electricity, Alberta Energy As the Senior Policy Analyst, I am responsible for consulting with a broad cross section of stakeholders in the electricity sector to analyze and understand the electric challenges and trends. I developed and advised on legislative or regulatory refinements to ensure that Alberta’s retail and distribution electric market is competitive, efficient, and sustainable. As one of the key contacts with electric industry participants, I represented the Government in engagement with retailers, distribution owners, generation investors and end user consumers. I consult with the Energy Legal Services to advise on Coal Transition, Off-Coal Agreements and Coal-to-gas Conversion on behalf of the province. In order to support the development and security of Alberta’s electric industry, my role operated in a highly political, technical, and ever-changing environment with the ability to quickly assess complex situations, make recommendations, and communicate with stakeholders in a concise and diplomatic manner. Working with cross-divisional teams from the Alberta Energy, I supported implementation with government agencies and partnering Ministries across the Government of Alberta to facilitate the transition of the electric industry to a greener, more sustainable future.

My role in support of regulation and policy development includes: Building and nurturing the professional working relationships with departments through collaboration with interdisciplinary teams by providing advice and consultative support to clients, identifying policy implications within regulations and legislation, researching and analyzing policy initiatives brought forward by departments; Advising and consulting government departments to apply relevant regulatory analysis and evaluation to policies and legislation; Working collaboratively with Policy Coordination Office team to provide advice on analytical frameworks, processes, and providing regulatory alternatives that ensure stakeholder consultation, financial impact assessments, and monitoring and evaluation for regulation and legislation is comprehensive; Conducting research on environmental scanning issues and trends, considering Government’s strategic goals when analyzing and preparing briefings that are brought through the government decision-making processes; Providing written and verbal briefings to the Deputy and ADMs of PCO on regulatory and policy issues and providing advice that supports the review of regulations and related policy through the Cabinet Committee approval process; and, Facilitating change in policy direction by providing a strategic focus to ensure policies are aligned with Government’s strategic direction and priorities. Playing a key role in the transition management of departmental initiatives and platforms during the 2019 provincial election.

As a Policy Analyst, I provide comprehensive analytical and coordination services for the Ministry's environmental policy and legislative initiatives. By reviewing and analyzing diverse information, I support the development of policies, programs and planning documents that are consistent with the direction of the Government of Alberta, and that contribute to policy planning and legislative frameworks for the consideration of Senior Ministry representatives. I regularly collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure proper consultative representation and integration of expertise. Synthesizing information for the development of recommendations and options for Executive and Cabinet decision, I apply project management methods and tools for medium- to long-range policy development.

By monitoring and evaluating trends in the global energy industry sector, regulatory environment, market trends and political issues, I support the logistics of incoming international visits or outgoing Alberta Energy delegations. As an External Relations Consultant, I identify strategic, policy or program issues and prepare information documents for Alberta Energy representatives in support of Alberta Energy's market diversification initiatives. In identifying business synergies to align government policy with international energy market opportunities, I contribute to the development of energy policy by applying a global energy markets perspective to mission and program planning.
