Under mentorship; I held the Civils CRE role for this Freight Train Lengthening scheme responsible for the technical delivery and acceptance of F002 and F003 Civils designs from our Delhi team - Global Design Centre (GDC). This was for a freight train loop track enhancement scheme near Dorridge Station. Works included various Signalling and Civils ancillary structures for the Design and Build contractor Babcock International.

* Design Manager on the Great Western Electrification programme (GWEp), Additional Route Sections - RS10,11,12 (Wales). Responsible for the coordination and delivery of the Civils Design elements on this multi-disciplinary GRIP stage 2-3 for Network Rail * within a JV with Parsons Brinckerhoff (for Telcoms and Signalling) and in sub-consultancy arrangements with Mott MacDonald for the GRIp3 OLE layout design. Civils elements managed included: Work Option Forms (high-level options) * Signal Option Selection Summary Reports for overbridge interventions and Stations * Platform Extensions * Awning and viaduct F001 option designs * and signal gantries. I was also responsible for a small civils design team as team leader, providing upwards and downwards cascades of business processes/ notifications, health and safety bulletins * and day-to-day resource management.

APM on the fast tracked East West Rail Phase 1 contract for Network Rail. I monitored multidisciplinary design deliveries, solving blockers to delivery and coordinating solutions for increased productivity for up to Form 3 detailed designs. This included day to day project management of people, resources, programme and CEM tasks; such as interdisciplinary reviews for the design teams. Additionally I was responsibly for managing coordination between the multiple Civils Design and checking teams; split across different offices within the UK and internationally in India.

* Senior Engineer, Atkins * Redditch Branch Enhancements (GRIP5) for Buckinghams Group: Civils lead engineer for the technical delivery of the detailed design related to the service improvement for Alvechurch to Redditch branch. The works involved the detailed design and coordination within this multi-disciplinary scheme including pway extension, new station platform, footbridge and lifts. I coordinated with other rail disciplines to interface the civils requirements including drainage and culverts * earthworks and retaining structures * OLE and signal foundations * and Telecomms and power installations. Into the construction phases I resolved and answered technical queries from BGCL.

Overview: 4.1km of carriageway resurfacing and road safety improvements within framework agreement for local and national authority Responsibilities & Achievements: Operating of a shift pattern covering a highly active contract and programme of works. Supervision and monitoring of works by surfacing and signage subcontractors. Development of detailed working programmes to manage risk and time allowances. Completion of works to beyond the client’s highest satisfaction; incorporating additional works within original contract time frames by personally developing working programme, arrangement of risks and opportunities within the scope of works. Document and information exchange controller to liaise the distribution of contract information and changes across all shift personnel

* Overview: 12month secondment within Atkins Rail, The Axis, Birmingham Responsibilities & Achievements: Detailed design, tender submissions, project research and feasibility design for various rail infrastructure projects. Including platform extensions Tile Hill, Berkswell and Northampton * and emergency multispan bridge replacement for Kier at Ely. Other responsibilities included production of contract documentation, drawings and specification * detailed design calculations * structural design and modelling * and commercial accounting.

Overview: Brick Arch re-strengthening and highway improvements to a Network Rail overbridge Responsibilities & Achievements: All senior engineering duties with minimal project support by offsite project Agent. Work face risk assessments and methodologies; project HSEQ and commercial management. I produced works programmes and plans; supervised resource and material usage. Solo production of fully localised HSEQ system, close liaison with all stakeholders connected to the contract including service providers, Network Rail, Clients representative and subcontractors.

Overview: Track upgrade and maintenance to the West Coast Mainline for Virgins Pendolino trains. Responsibilities & Achievements: Experience of working within rail environments at various locations and commencement of new feeder station construction at Bereton, Staffordshire. Included Engineering experience of temporary reinforced concrete bridge construction.

Overview: 14 months industrial work placement; working within a unique team of four joint venture contractors, to deliver the biggest new road construction project at the time. Responsibilities & Achievements: Engineering and setting out duties for; safety fencing, boundary fencing, street lighting, pavement construction, and geotechnical Instrumentation. General site engineering tasks undertaken including monitoring and compliance with production quality, setting out and surveying, producing permits for work, instructing gangs, problem solving & providing information, and team leader for soil instrumentation monitoring regime.

A10/A14 Milton Interchange (£3.8M) & Hayling Way Towpath Reconstruction (£0.65M) Overview: Major Junction improvements to north Cambridge and the reconstruction of a small logistically challenging towpath along the river Cam. Responsibilities & Achievements: Engineering control and setting out, issuing permits and information to site gangs. Production of method statements and risk assessments. For Hayling Way I help develop an innovative and effective methodology to allow materials to be delivered to the worksite by river during the towpath reconstruction. I completed close scrutiny of the commercial expenditure and productivity, allowing the Client to extend the project by a further 50% due to savings made via the target cost contact and the effective management of the busy towpath for pedestrian safety. .

My role was Engineering and Works Package Manager on London North West (South) Electrification - for London Overground Capacity Improvements Programme (LOCIP) £1.2M; and a lesser extent on Walsall to Rugeley (W2R) £7.1M. As with electrification projects today this had its significant technical/ programme challenges and rewards. The schemes are upgrading sections of existing network with increased power distribution (LOCIP & W2R) and Overhead Line Equipment (W2R) to increase network capacity and punctuality. I held the position of Team Leader to 6 individuals within a Project Managers and Work Package Management team at this time.

Overview: The replacement of 3 existing roundabouts with traffic control junctions along the A6, South of Bedford. Responsibilities & Achievements: Coordination of engineering resources and activities. Planning and coordinating subcontractor works packages and review of health and safety procedures and methods. Liaison with design representatives for inspections and problem solving of challenging design elements (Design and Build). Direct coordination, mentoring and supervision of a large junior team of up to 4 graduate engineers, establishment of project HSEQ systems and procedures and ensuring continued development and improvement to achieve project and business objectives.
