* Health and Safety Consultant/Planning Supervisor – Provision of consultancy services and planning supervisor duties, comprising: * Planning Supervisor * Responsible for many projects falling under the scope of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), carrying out risk assessments, liaising with clients, designers and contractors and the production of associated documentation including health and safety plans, and files. Also carried out site audits and inspections on behalf of clients. * Safety Advisor * Acted as the safety advisor for the principal contractor on a £40M construction project at Mogden sewage treatment works. This involved the co-ordination of on-site activities to ensure safe working practices, giving induction training and toolbox talks, undertaking safety inspections and accident investigation and reporting. * HAZOP Chairman/Secretary * Clients included Thames Water, Severn Trent Water and the British Airports Authority.

Responsible for the management of health and safety support and advice to a diverse client portfolio. Main responsibilities include the development of tailored health and safety management systems, carrying out health and safety audits and inspections, the development and delivery of health and safety training programmes, providing assistance with task and workplace risk assessments, and carrying out fire risk assessments. I am also the nominated health and safety committee member for the NGA Division, responsible for liaising with health and safety representatives and collating health and safety management information and compiling monthly reports. Also deputised for the Group H&S Manager during times of absence.

As the regional IMS Manager I was responsible for managing a regional team of health, safety and sustainability advisors providing operational support and advice to the Carillion facilities management, planned maintenance and government services divisions. In addition I provided strategic IMS support to three operational directors and their direct reports/senior management teams, including the director responsible for all construction projects. As IMS Advisor I was the nominated IMS lead on subcontractor and supply chain management for the Carillion Business Services Division.

Responsible for leading the management of health and safety across a property portfolio of circa 3,500 properties. One of my main responsibilities included acting as the HSE representative during the construction and mobilisation of the new RBSG global headquarters in Edinburgh, with a project value of £350 million. I was also responsible for the project management of a multidisciplinary team tasked with improving the Group’s global ‘control of contractor’ policies and arrangements. Overseas work included leading an investigation into an outbreak of Legionella bacteria at the RBS Insurance (Direct Line) offices in Milan.

* Senior Consultant - Provision of consultancy services to a wide range of clients, including: * Egger Compact * COMAH Safety Case Project Manager – Project manager for the development and implementation of a safety case for this clients’ COMAH facility. Also led the development of the site’s safety management system to meet the requirements of OHSAS 18001. * BP Grangemouth * Power station control room staffing assessment study – a project to review staffing levels and assess human factor risks.

Safety, Health and Environmental Consultant – Provision of consultancy services to a wide range of clients, including: Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Environmental Implementation Team Leader – Development and implementation of strategy and systems required for AWE’s environmental management system (EMS) in order to achieve accreditation to BS EN ISO 14001. This included the environmental audit of facility operations, application of BPM and BPEO methodologies, and integration of the EMS with existing safety and quality management systems. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Health and Safety Consultant – Provision of specialist advice with respect to the use of chemicals used in the workplace for a HSE nation-wide survey. London Underground Limited Health and Safety Consultant – A review of hazardous materials contained within components of the rolling stock was undertaken. The objective was to assess the long and short-term effects of potential exposures. Quantitative risk assessment techniques were used to establish whether the exposure assessment results were ALARP.

Main duties involved ensuring compliance with both health & safety and environmental legislation. This included the development and implementation of the Trust’s waste management policy and associated procedures. Other areas of responsibility included undertaking risk assessments, accident investigation and liaison with the local enforcing authority, along with the management and co-ordination of five operator staff.

Reporting to the Facilities Director I was responsible for the management of health & safety throughout the Facilities division. The division comprised approximately 450 staff based within 19 different office locations that constitute the head office in Edinburgh. This division manages major projects, cleaning and maintenance, security, accommodation planning and purchasing functions. In addition, the company’s extensive document control and warehouse facility come under the Facilities umbrella. Other responsibilities include health & safety management of the maintenance and projects functions across the company’s branch network. Also project manager leading a team of senior managers to develop a formal safety management system to the OHSAS 18001 specification.

As EHS Manager I have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the site EHS strategy and management systems at the Inchinnan site. The site is the EMEA headquarters for the Life Sciences Solutions Group (LSG) comprising cell culture manufacturing and advanced granulation technology (AGT) facilities, a synthetic DNA/oligo synthesis production department, a distribution centre, customer experience centre, the EMEA IT administration department and almost 600 on-site personnel. My role requires me to have adequate arrangements in place to manage the site’s regulatory permits for emissions to air and water, and to liaise with regulatory authorities including the HSE, SEPA, Scottish Water and the Animal and Plant Health Agency. I have line management responsibility for the site EHS Specialist.
