British Petroleum (BP) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of energy. BP operated the “AIOC “early oil” crude oil pipeline”, for a consortium of oil companies. My initial post was as Production Manager responsible for the safe operations of a 1 million barrel oil storage depot and marine loading facilities upon “first oil”. Subsequently, I ensured that the local Georgian staff were trained and competent to operate these facilities thus replacing the expatriate technicians.

Kvaerner Process, formally known as John Brown Engineering and Contractors, were the EPC and management contractor for the detailed design and construction of the “AIOC “early oil” crude oil pipeline” (as detailed above). As Pipeline Engineer preparing initial Cause and Effect diagrams, Instrument and Equipment Schedules and the Control and Operating Philosophy for the pipeline. Also arranging commissioning activities for onshore gas pipeline sections and vacuum drying operations upon completion of hydrostatic testing (for the Bacton to Zeebrugge interconnector pipeline). As Commissioning Engineer preparing all Operating Manuals for the, commissioning of facilities and controlling the handover of Supsa Oil Terminal’s crude oil storage and marine loading facilities to the client, BP, upon “mechanical completion”, organising punch listing and subsequent remedial work, handover of project documentation.

The first company was a consortium of Thai and foreign oil companies that build and operated a multi-product oil pipeline to take oil from coastal refineries to storage depots inland and the second was a Lonrho company that build and operated a multi-product pipeline from the Mozambique border to Harare the capital of Zimbabwe. For both companies I was a Pipeline Operations Engineer (on contract) and part of the commissioning team that operated of pipeline and tankage facilities during the commissioning of SCADA control system. During both contracts I trained local personnel in pipeline operation upon completion of commissioning and provided technical support and operational advice.

Thames Water International owned and successfully operated Da Chang Water Treatment Plant in Shanghai from 1996 to 2004 originally under a 20-year BOT Concession Contract. Da Chang being the first private sector funded water treatment project in China, producing 400 million litres of clean water per day, enough to supply up to one million people of Shanghai’s population. In 2004, share transfer conducted to return business back to Shanghai Water Authority. My role was:- Safe, efficient and reliable day-to-day and long-term operations management of Da-Chang Water Treatment Plant. Deliver financial, customer service and quality targets in accordance with concession contract. Manage client relationships and concession company board relationships to ensure a good and cooperative working arrangement.
