I was a trainee in Delayed Coking Unit (DCU) of Nayara Energy Limited. I learnt about the delayed coking process & how the vacuum residue produced by other plants are converted to light end products in this unit such as HHCGO, HCGO, LCGO, LPG,Naphtha, Fuel gas, petcoke. The introduction of the unit to the refinery has helped in increasing the refinery capacity from 10.5 MMTPA to 16 MMTPA with an objective to convert bottom of the barrel i.e vacuum residue in to valuable distillate (49%), petroleum coke (34.7%) and to eliminate fuel oil production.
