About
Tests are like audits, no one wants one but opportunities to improve performance are identified. As a student, I did not appreciate the value of the word “test”. I would have a visceral reaction—racing pulse and near panic. If the word “test” were changed to “audit” I would understand that the outcome of interest is multifaceted from individual performance, workflow design, and the ”system”. Regulations, guidelines, and policies are created with the intention of protecting individuals and groups with defined boundaries. Integrating changes and shifting business culture to work within the framework is necessary for compliance, best business practices, and equitable access. This is true in biomedical research, multiple payers, and in personal choices.

Applying accounts receivables, line item identification of funds, setting-up accounts with automated payroll integration, participating in external audits documentation needs, and experiencing record retention moving from paper to electronic format has been a valuable asset to incorporating didactic to application. My teams of coworkers are in silos of tasks; however, we interact in driving quality products in accordance with guidelines and regulations.

As a research analyst I navigate between revenue recovery, administrative, clinical trial regulatory, and the intersection of each role to maintain company, contractual, state, and federal compliance. My broader role allows me to apply my education in practical activities to have a meaningful impact not only for the business end but for patients in our Northern Nevada community who seek to participate in cutting edge clinical trials for both the potential self-benefit and the generalizations from data collection during their enrollment in the study. I am a human asset for Renown Regional Medical Center. The value I add to the health system is a bridge from frontline patients/participants, navigating systematic documentation for quality and life safety, and ultimately a return on investment for offering clinical trials at Renown Health.
