I used proteomic methods to gain insight into the function and network of the protein TALPID3. I used an in vivo modelling system to understand human TALPID3 patient mutations and the cause of the ciliopathy phenotype seen in these patients. I have presented my research at national and international conferences, been involved in collaborative research and worked both as part of a team and individually.

Intern in Invertebrate Genetics

Produced a gene edited Drosophila line to test new compounds aimed at overcoming field pesticide resistance, leading to a successful product testing line. Optimised the design of a new imaging platform for the purpose of testing new insecticide product compounds. Responsible for training staff to complete testing of compounds using this platform. Completed COSHH risk assessment forms for compounds tested to ensure minimal risk to team members.

Research Project

Analysed PMA and EphA4 mice models to determine components of the suggested Clubfoot-causing pathway. In vivo testing in chick to show that upregulation of a specific gene is causing the nerve defect seen in a small subset of Clubfoot patients.

Developed an optimised protocol for RNA in situ hybridisation of Xenopus tropicalis. Created RNA probes and completed in situ hybridisations to analyse expression of specific genes of interest at early stages of development.
