Palouse Rangeland Consulting is focused on rangeland ecology, applied research, the development of ecological tools, extension, scientific writing, and rangeland/ranching economic analysis. Researching and applying targeted grazing as a vegetation management tool is a key area of interest, focused on fine fuel mitigation and invasive species management. We retain a strong background in policy analysis, development, and implementation.

Liaison, coordinator, and researcher for the development, pilot, and testing of livestock use models for the management of fine fuels on BC’s Crown rangelands.

Implementing the Grasslands Natural Region range stewardship program through extension, applied science, development of ecological tools, policy development, education, and collaborative partnerships. Providing an advisory role in the development of sustainable range management practices and policies as well as developing innovative strategies that conserve rangeland resources and support the integrated use of public lands. Highlights include: • Participation in policy development for emerging rangeland issues associated with renewable energy development, grassland conservation, protected areas designation, grazing tenure (Extended Grazing Disposition Tenure for Exemplary Stewardship), and public land grazing disposition rental rates. Was a key member in the introduction and approval of Bill 16 by the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 30th Legislature (2019). • Collaboration in the development of ecological and policy support tools including range plant community guides, project extension documents, conservation site assessments, post fire assessment protocol, grassland conservation mapping, literature review of reclamation practices in the central parkland and northern fescue natural subregions, and risk mapping.

Working in rangeland policy and applied science in the province of Alberta. Administering the Alberta Land Trust Grant Program to conserve and steward lands across the province. Involved in various policy initiatives involving multiple issues and diverse stakeholders. Worked on ecosystem classification, range health assessments, range management plans, and various other range management practices in the province.

Investigating the recovery of legumes in northern temperate pastures following the application of broad leaf herbicides.

Teaching the lab portion of Environmental and Conservation Science 406. Plant identification of Albertan and British Colombian rangeland species.

Teaching the lab portion of Environmental and Conservation Science 356. Range use plans, range health assessments, ranching strategies and grazing plans.
