Lead a multidisciplinary unit of 160 scientists consisting of medicinal, peptide and isotope chemistry, computational drug design, assay development, high throughput screening and cell biology, structural biology and biophysics, analytical and physicochemical profiling and sample management. Responsible for the delivery of projects, both internally and with external collaborators, from target identification and validation through to the delivery of clinical candidates. Providing scientific and strategic leadership in our Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Innovative Medicines unit. My main activities are driving phenotypic screening approaches in the areas of cardiac and pancreas regeneration and developing innovative chemical modalities to tackle challenging targets and diseases. The research involves high levels of cross-disciplinary collaboration and strategic thinking and I am seeking and leading external scientific collaborations. Leading a section of 40 Medicinal Chemists working on multiple lead optimisation drug discovery projects across cardiovascular, metabolic and gastrointestinal therapy areas to deliver candidate molecules to the clinic.
