Serve as a strategic consultant to large pharma, small biotechs and healthcare funds in the area of clinical development, talent development and organizational development.

Reported to the CEO as Member of Executive Committee. Hired into this newly created position to improve the quality of clinical development and cooperation across clinical therapeutic areas, clinical operations, statistics, and program leadership. Managed a staff of 800+ with 12 direct reports.

Brought in to create a new organization and to transform clinical development within a pharmaceutical business that did not previously have an approval of a new medicine in more than a decade. Managed 500+ in 5 countries, including oncology, immunology, and general medicine clinical therapeutic teams, clinical operations, statistics, evidence, and value, and the R&D hubs in China and Japan.

Served in a player/coach role, both as the cross-functional program development leader for Keytruda and as the manager of early- and late-stage program leaders across the global oncology business. Instrumental in developing and the executing the strategy that led to Keytruda’s first approvals in the US and EU and the initiation of a broad clinical program across more than 30 tumor types.

Directed Phase II-V clinical development and WMA/NDA submissions for bone, urologic, GI, respiratory (asthma, COPD, allergic rhinitis) diseases, rheumatology, and inflammatory pain. Served as the lead clinical voice for both the Target through IIB and Late Stage BRIE (bone, respiratory, immunology, endocrine) franchise, which set the discovery, development, licensing, and marketing strategy and vision.

Oversaw the development of biomarkers, imaging modalities, experimental medicine studies and genetic and genomic approaches for bone, respiratory, urologic, muscle, and auto-immune diseases, and inflammatory pain. Provided franchise oversight of early development teams and strategies and served as the bridge from preclinical to clinical development.

Took on this additional interim role overseeing preclinical and clinical scientists developing novel imaging modalities to support pre-clinical and clinical programs across all therapeutic areas.

Worked on a transformation team as part of the Strategic Realization Office (SRO). Collaborated with the CEO’s management team to outline Merck’s five-year strategy, communicate it throughout the organization, and develop its implementation roadmap.

Steered Phase II-V clinical development and WMA/NDA submissions for immunology and inflammatory pain. Served as a founding member of Merck’s peer review Clinical Protocol Review Committee.

Instrumental in securing sWMA/sNDA and approval for Vioxx in rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and migraine. Achieved approval of Arcoxia in more than 80 countries.
