About
I am a well-rounded cell and molecular biologist with a foundation in genetics, neuroscience, microbiology, and regenerative and developmental biology. I have strong oral and written communication skills, am able to advance multiple projects concurrently, and have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. I use these skills as a Scientist at BioAesthetics.

Experience

medical writer
medthink scicom
As a medical writer, I was responsible for the development of scientific content in a variety of formats, accurate interpretation of data, clear communication with clients and authors, as well as with our various in-house teams, and I produced quality products efficiently under multiple timelines.

postdoctoral researcher
duke university
I studied how cells respond to infection by Tuberculosis bacteria. Tuberculosis is a deadly disease, and Tuberculosis bacteria are able to subvert our immune cells, changing them from bacterial attackers into bacterial safe havens. The goal of my lab was to understand how our own cells are changed to support Tuberculosis bacteria, and how we can alter this response to stimulate the immune system to better fight disease. I researched how developmental signaling pathways were utilized during early disease stages to form structures that are protective to the bacteria.

graduate student
university of pennsylvania
I established an assay for studying nerve degeneration and regeneration in larval Zebrafish using a microscopic laser and spinning disc microscopy. These fish are an excellent model system because they have the same cell types as humans, and their nervous system is organized similar to humans. Using this system I characterized how immune cells interact with degenerating nerves, how Schwann cells are critical for nerve regeneration, and that a developmental neural pathfinding signal, DCC, is used for regenerative axon guidance.

laboratory technician
university of pennsylvania
As a laboratory technician I worked in a biochemistry lab on a crystallography project aimed at deciphering a code for protein-DNA binding.

research experience for undergraduates
harvard forest
As an REU at Harvard Forest I studied the role of anthocyanins on temperature and photosynthetic efficiency, and the food webs living inside a unique carnivorous pitcher plant native to bogs on the East coast.

senior medical writer
medthink scicom
I was responsible for developing scientific and medical writing, manuscripts, slides, abstracts and posters, for various purposes that included oral presentations, disease state educational and training tools, scientific platforms, peer-reviewed publications, and more. I also participated in client publication planning. I analyzed, interpreted, and ensured the accuracy and reliability of scientific data. Therapeutic areas included rare diseases, obesity, biosimilar therapies, mental illness, and renal disease.

bioaesthetics
BioAesthetic's mission is to improve reconstruction options for breast cancer patients after they undergo mastectomies. The BioAesthetics’ initial product is a tissue-engineered nipple-areolar complex (NAC). This product will be provided to plastic and reconstructive surgeons as an off-the-shelf ready, acellular, NAC graft. During the breast reconstruction phase, after a mastectomy, the surgeon would engraft the NAC graft in position onto the patient’s reconstructed breast. The patient’s body would then use this NAC graft as a building frame to regenerate their own NAC. This patent-pending product is currently in the pre-clinical phase.
