About
I am an award-winning Mixed Latine author and award-winning journalist. After receiving my MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Oklahoma, I went on to create a career centered on writing. My first novel, SECRETS OF THE CASA ROSADA, was published by Arte Publico Press on October 31, 2018, and has won notable awards like Kirkus Reviews Best of YA Books 2018, Starred Kirkus Review, NACCS Tejas Foco Young Adult Award 2019, TAYSHAS 2019, and the Writer's League of Texas Discovery Prize in 2019. My second book HALF OUTLAW was published by Blackstone Publishing in print, digital, and audio in 2022. The novel received a Bronze Medal for the Rudolfo Anaya Best Latino Focused Fiction Book Award in the 2023 International Latino Book Awards My third book, Writing An Identity Not Your Own, was published in August 2024 by St. Martin's Essentials. It's my first non-fiction book and a craft writing book that has received a Starred Review from Shelf Awareness. I have two pieces in anthologies: Living Beyond Borders: Growing Up Mexican in America (2021) and Speculative Fiction for Dreamers: A Latinx Anthology (2021). Several creative writing pieces have been published in D Magazine, PALABRITAS, Cigale Literary Magazine, Scissortale Review, and two book reviews published on Colorado Review. I've been a freelance writer since 2015. Though I've done some copywriting and editing, most of my career has been focused on writing articles for online and print outlets. I'm best known of my coverage on diversity, equity, and inclusion in subjects such as travel, the outdoors, arts, culture, home, and design. In 2021, I won the Bessie Award for "Most Impactful Piece of Writing" for my article in Conde Nast Traveler, "Questions Every Anti-Racist Traveler Should Ask On a Trip." My articles have appeared in such outlets like National Geographic, Travel+Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Outside Magazine, Lonely Planet, Texas Monthly, Architectural Digest, The Daily Beast, TravelPulse, Bustle, Elite Daily, Roadtrippers, Dallas Morning News, VICE, Here Magazine, TimeOut, Well + Good, Texas Highways, among many others. I'm represented by Mary C. Moore. Learn more at my website AlexTemblador.com. My pronouns are she/her and identify as Mexican-American, Mixed , Chicana, Latina or Latino or Latine, and Hispanic.
