Alex Demkov

Demkov is Professor of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his PhD in theoretical physics in 1995 from Arizona State University (ASU). In 1995-1997 he was a postdoctoral researcher at ASU. In 1997-2005 he provided theoretical support for the development of low- and high-k dielectric materials as a principal staff scientist in Motorola’s R&D organization. Prof. Demkov published over 280 research papers, and has been awarded ten U.S. patents. He received the 2014 AVS Excellence in Leadership Award, 2011 IBM Faculty Award, 2006 NSF CAREER award, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). He is Senior Member of IEEE.. Specialties: He is an expert in materials for the advanced CMOS technology, and is currently working on the physics of oxide heterostructures and oxide integration with semiconductors via epitaxy. He is particularly interested in Si-integrated ferroelectrics for applications in silicon photonics. The Demkov group conducts both theoretical and experimental research. In 2022, Demkov co-founded La Luce Cristallina Inc., the leading provider of Si-integrated BaTiO3.
