Alex Laskowska

Led tours for prospective students; painting a positive image for the Pharmacology department based on my personal experiences and informing them of the course content, student life and answering any questions they had. Worked alongside other students and handled large groups of people during tours and hence had to ensure my attention was divided accordingly thereby improving my leadership and presentation skills.

Supervised bar area; took orders, prepared drinks and replenished the inventory. Upheld health and safety standards and maintained a customer-focused service.

Engaged in the tutoring of 5 primary school aged children in preparations for SAT’s test and the 11+ exam. Learnt to adapt my communication to appeal towards different ages. Designed session content and coordinated schedules to provide assistance to multiple students.

In Sixth Form, I held the position of a Prefect which involved attending parents evenings and open days to deliver presentations and tours of the school. I was involved in the planning and organising of Charity Week- an annual event held to raise money for various charities. I took part in the Biology Tutoring Scheme in year 13, which compromised of holding weekly lunchtime sessions to aid the Year 11 and 12's in their preparation for exams. Focusing on the effect of painkillers on the brain and body as part of my Extended Project Qualification permitted extensive research into the science behind analgesics (in particular paracetamol and ibuprofen), including the formulation, mechanism of action and ADME processes. I achieved a Bronze certificate in the Biology Olympiad.
