Alanna Okun

I'm a writer, editor, artist and programmer with over a decade of experience in digital media. I'm a recent graduate from NYU ITP, where I've spent the past two years studying code, circuitry, text, and textiles. I worked at BuzzFeed as a reporter and editor from 2012 until 2017, and then as a senior editor at Vox Media until 2024 — first at Racked (RIP) and then at Vox dot com, where I oversaw the service journalism vertical Even Better.I'm the author of two books, both related to crafting: a collection of essays called The Curse of the Boyfriend Sweater, published by Flatiron / Macmillan in 2018, and Knit a Hat, an intro guide to knitting published by Abrams in 2020. I've appeared on dozens of local and national TV and radio shows, including Today, Good Morning America, the Katie Couric Show, NPR, and others. I'm a self-taught game developer with a particular interest in interactive and narrative design, and am open to projects and collaborations of all scopes across my various disciplines and areas of interest.
