Graduation Internship where my research involved looking at the pipeline system of WKO Project Cartesius te Utrecht, to determine the effect of increasing the maximum amount of allowed pipeline pressure (Pa/m) and velocity (m/s) for indoor- and outdoor pipeline systems for heating/cooling and tapwater. Research shows increasing the pressure and velocity causes the diameters of the pipeline system to get smaller. With the total amount of surface area decreasing, the total amount of thermal heat loss throughout the pipeline system decreases. The higher pressure and velocity are compensated with an increase in total amount of electricity used by the distribution pump. There is not much change in total energy consumption, but with the new certified NTA8800 tool and decrease in material costs the total cost for the project will have decreased by nearly €100.000.

For my graduation internship I am responsible for collecting all data regarding the energy consumption of operational equipment inside Airframe and KLM’s subsidiary EPCOR, and looking at possibilities for sustainable renewable energy options by generating a Heat Map, consisting of all MRO ground operation repair machines, their energy consumption and their possibilities for renewable energy. An advisory report for KLM is made showcasing all potential business cases to make all Equipment used for MRO Ground Operations emission free. Research involves the reusability of unused electrical energy from EPCOR's Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Test Cell. Thesis was rejected by Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences because (according to them) the thesis was too "Business-Engineering oriented" and "Not Technical enough". Though KLM has incorporated this Thesis rapport as a first step and lead in obtaining the highly sought-after overview necessary to make aeroplane MRO-operations emission-free by 2030.

Responsible for setting up a full-car CFD model to participate with the Formula Student competition using OpenFOAM, an Open Source C++ CFD Program. The CFD model is used to increase Aerodynamic vehicle performance by increasing the downforce (negative lift), making the car faster and therefore decreasing total lap time. Developments in Aerodynamic performance of the vehicle were done through the creation and design of various concepts involving the vehicle nozzle, underbody and diffuser to increase downforce generated from the vehicle underside. Validation for the full-car CFD model was done by modelling a vehicle bluff body called the Ahmed Body. Attempts to create the mesh were done with the use of both cfMesh and snappyHexMesh. For the solver, a steady-state Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solver called simpleFoam was used. Various turbulence models, discretization schemes and initial conditions showed the k-ω SST (k-Omega SST) model to give the best simulation results.
