Power System Engineer in Training
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
•Perform load flow and dynamic stability analysis using power system simulation software to establish system operating limits. •Prepare system operating procedures and operational guidelines for use by System Operator in the secure and reliable operations of the bulk power system. •Develop, implement, and maintain operational tools to aid System Operators in power system operations. •Assist in defining near real-time operational data requirements for substation and generator additions to the power system. •Achieve and maintain accreditation as a NERC certified operator. •Provide backup support for outage coordination. This process provides for the scheduling of planned outages in a secure and reliable manner, while balancing impacts to customers, economic dispatch, and adequacy of protection. •Support system operators in the real-time resolution of the forced outages by performing load flow and dynamic stability studies using power system simulation software. •Prepare short term operating instructions to assist system operators in secure and reliable power system operation under abnormal conditions. •Provide after-hours support to system operators as part of a stand-by rotation. •Prepare, deliver, and maintain presentation materials for system operators under a NERC structured training program. •Keep system models and training scenarios for the operator training simulator current, and use this tool to deliver training to system operators. •Maintain compliance with reliability standards as they pertain to the system security functions of control center operations.
