The Czechowicz Lab is primarily focused on studying the cell surface receptors on hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells and bone marrow stromal cells, and is actively learning how manipulating these can alter cell state and cell fate. There are many exciting opportunities that stem from this work across a variety of disease states ranging from rare genetic diseases, autoimmune diseases, solid organ transplantation, microbiome and cancer. While we are primarily focused on blood and immune diseases, the expanded potential of this work is much broader and can be applied to other organ systems as well and we are very eager to develop collaborations across disease areas.

* Laboratory of Dr. Jane Little in National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases * Investigated the molecular mechanisms through which embryonic/fetal globin genes are regulated during development. * Developed luciferase reporter assays and studied transcription factor and histone deacetylase binding to globin locus.

* Under the supervision of Dr. Johannes Schweizer and Dr. Peter Lu * Researched PDZ domains and their applicability to improving Human Papilloma Virus diagnostics and therapeutics. * Participated in understanding/developing business and scientific strategy at a small, early-stage biotechnology company.

Laboratory of Dr. Edmund Zottola in Department of Food Science and Nutrition Assisted graduate students in conducting research in various areas of food microbiology, including testing starter cultures in cheese production and pathogenicity of E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella, and Listeria.

Laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey S. Miller in Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology Generated and studied immune response of dendritic cells generated from patient peripheral blood.
