Principal Backend Engineer @ PLAYSTUDIOS
About
Professional software engineer since 2006. I've developed software in many languages, utilizing different philosophies. I really enjoy learning new technologies and enjoy solving problems. I have experience leading teams on projects and have worked with many different disciplines in my career. I feel blessed to have been able to work with great people throughout my career and I look forward to continue doing so! I really enjoy functional programming techniques with a heavy dependence on compile time type safety, immutability, and closed sets of data. I took a course in Haskell to help understand pure functional concepts better so I could apply them to other languages, where applicable. This was a big paradigm shift from earlier development. I find these methods to be far easier to build and change software effectively and safely, both initially and over time. These tools bring a new way of dealing with problems. For 7+ years, I have focused on server / backend related development. I've helped develop solutions for long-running products in .NET/Core and ASP .NET/Core including, but not limited to, player-specific features for a product, external services for features that can be accessed by a player linked between all products, multiplayer features for small and large amounts of players, creating external tools, and hotfixes, under fire, to unblock players when a system is performing incorrectly. I have experience in Azure utilizing WebApp, KeyVault, Container Registry, Azure Container Instances, API Management Gateway, etc. Prior to server development, I helped ship 19 games for mobile devices (BREW, iOS, Android), WebGL using Unity, and embedded platforms (Jakks Pacific Plug n' Play games). I helped ship two products using Unity near the end of my time there. I've had the privilege of working on a lot of fun IPs and many different hardware types. There were a lot of fun projects I was a part of there, one very neat one was working with raw data from accelerometers to build motion controls in games using an assembly language via interrupts to interpret the raw input.
