Today, I’m a founder, investor, and advisor. But life hasn’t always been this rosy. In school, I was told I had no hope. I was dyslexic, rebellious, and at the bottom of every class I took. Every avenue seemed closed to me. Teachers told me 'no'. Employers told me 'no'. Even people who knew me told me, albeit more politely, 'no'. In my mind, there was only one answer: To tell myself yes. Now, the companies I’ve founded include Fone King, Australia’s leading mobile phone repair and accessories provider; Flight Risk EEVs, already making its mark in the rapidly growing e-bike industry; and My Little Sunshine ECC, which is opening its second centre this year. Along the way, I’ve built, advised, and invested in countless other businesses. Me. The one they all said 'no' to. I didn’t set out to build a business, I just wanted a job. No one would give me one. So, I created one. Now, I’m keen to share what I’ve learned with others. I want people to understand that building and running a successful business isn’t all glory, like some make it out to be. It’s a daily grind. It’s hard. It’s not pretty. But you have to do the dirty work before things shine.
