Abigail Loh
Senior Associate Scientist @ Paratus Sciences
About
I'm a scientist with over a decade of translational research experience spanning rare diseases, neurodegeneration, immunology, and drug discovery — across both academic and biotech settings. At Paratus Sciences, I work at the intersection of biology and data, identifying therapeutic targets through multi-omics analysis and competitive intelligence, developing and optimizing biochemical assays, and building the data infrastructure that keeps discovery work audit-ready and decision-ready. Before biotech, I spent nearly a decade at A*STAR's Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, where I contributed to 12 peer-reviewed publications in journals including Neuron and Nature Communications, covering proline metabolism, rare genetic diseases, and neuroimmunology.

Experience

Senior Associate Scientist
Singapore
• Identified therapeutic targets through literature review, multi-omics in silico analysis, and competitive landscape assessment, leveraging GenAI tools with rigorous prompt engineering and iterative verification. • Developed and optimized biochemical and cell-based assays — including fluorescence polarization (FP), ELISA, and cell viability platforms — to characterize compounds and biologics across efficacy, potency, protein activity, and biomarker detection endpoints. • Led the design and build of a Benchling data model, establishing standardized schemas for compound and biologic inventory management to improve data transparency, cross-functional alignment, and audit-readiness. • Maintained comprehensive experimental records in Benchling ELN and prepared formal technical reports and presentations for leadership, cross-functional teams, and external consultants to support development decisions and patent filings. • Assessed CRO suitability, drafted in vivo experimental plans, and managed material transfers and customs coordination to support tech transfer and external collaboration milestones. • Oversaw lab operations including reagent and equipment procurement, preventive maintenance scheduling, risk assessment documentation, and safety compliance.

Research Manager
Singapore
• Led an independent research project investigating a novel neuropathological rare disease, expanding the lab's therapeutic research scope. • Conducted translational research on hepatocellular targets, contributing to pipeline development for liver cancer indications. • Coordinated a full laboratory relocation in collaboration with logistics partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring continuity of operations throughout the transition.

Senior Research Officer
Singapore
• Served as primary data contributor for mechanistic studies on PYCR2 in the central nervous system, culminating in a 2020 publication in Neuron. • Led experimental work for two publications on Huriez syndrome (2021), characterizing the genetic and molecular basis of this rare genodermatosis. • Generated foundational datasets for multiple rare disease projects — including cutis laxa, acro-cardio-facial syndrome, inflammatory mitochondriopathy, and mandibuloacral dysplasia — supporting publications in high-impact journals. • Served as Lab Health and Safety Representative (2021), overseeing compliance and risk management for the research group.

Research Officer
• Conducted experimental work on rare disease projects linked to the proline metabolic pathway, supporting mechanistic discovery research. • Performed animal husbandry, tissue collection, and downstream processing to support in vivo study workflows. • Contributed to lab operations through procurement support and preparation of common reagents.
Education

Global Medicine Development
Expected completion in April 2028 Online, part-time MSc grounded in the PharmaTrain curriculum, covering the end-to-end lifecycle of innovative medicines — from drug discovery and preclinical development through clinical trials, regulatory strategy, pharmacovigilance, and commercialisation. Modules include clinical trial management, regulation of medicines, medical affairs, advanced therapies, and health economics. Capstone project involves designing a comprehensive development plan for a new pharmaceutical product.
