Preparation of screening report & carrying out an EIA study for preparing EIA report for Kabul-Charikar Road Improvement Project. Assist Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) in securing EIA report based Certificate of Compliance from National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), Afghanistan. Also, provide on-the-job training to the MoPW staff in project implementation related environmental management issues for compliance with the environmental laws in Afghanistan, as well as JICA Guidelines for Environmental and Social Considerations.

Preparation of initial environmental examination (IEE) and/or environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for road, drain, kitchen market, water supply line, bus terminal, street light, water treatment plant, etc., construction works under Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund (BMDF) sub-projects in 120 Pourashavas. Also, preparation of mitigation and enhancement plans against the adverse and beneficial impacts, respectively, of the IEE/EIA reports. Conduction of training for the Municipal Engineers and contractors for management of construction wastes in respect of disposal standards of the Department of Environment, Government of Bangladesh and the environmental safeguard policies of the World Bank. Also, conduction of awareness raising orientation campaign for local residents for environment friendly use and maintenance of BMDF funded infrastructures.

Preparation of environmental check list, determination of appropriate safeguard categories, and preparation of environmental impact assessment (EIA) manual for infrastructure projects covering power, transport, and telecommunications sectors in Bangladesh, and some related activities.

Strengthen Environment Cell, of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), in environmental assessment and management at all stages of project cycle. Prepare guidelines and operationalize procedures to carry out environmental assessments, and implement effective environmental management plans (EMPs) for construction & maintenance works of RHD projects. Recommend, and help RHD implement, improvements to technical specifications relating to environmental protection for inclusion in standard bid documents. Train RHD staff members to implement and monitor EMPs & environmental protection measures & specifications and fulfill all relevant statutory requirements such as environmental clearance from the Department of Environment. Train to prepare environment assessment reports for selective pipe-line projects with the officials in the Environment Cell of RHD. Also, prepare a few monitoring reports on environment for selective ongoing projects with the officials in the Cell.

Review Environmental Mitigation & Monitoring Plan of the proposed new construction and/or upgrading of existing horticulture processing centers and slaughterhouses in light of actual choice of beneficiary agro-processing activities and Environmental Safeguard Policies of the Asian Development Bank. Develop Environmental Mitigation Guidelines to include in tender documents and works contracts for the proposed construction work of agro-processing facilities. Recommendation for modifying process design steps to use less resource, substitute toxic chemical inputs and/or otherwise introduce necessary changes to reduce pollution load and safe disposal of generated solid wastes. Recommend wastewater discharge standards, acceptable to National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA), for periodic monitoring during operational phase of the facilities. Also, train the national counterpart to undertake impact monitoring program for wastewater quality testing for agro-processor facilities.

Preparation of environmental impact assessment (EIA) report following the Environmental Safeguard Policies of the World Bank and EIA Guidelines of the Asian Development Bank as part of feasibility study for the Kelagai Storage Dam Project in Baghlan Province, Afghanistan. The project components were construction of concrete dam, barrage, lined and earthen irrigation canal, and some other associated structures. The EIA study included primary and secondary sources data collection for establishment of environmental baseline condition, identification of important environmental components (IECs), engineering options analysis for possible environmental effects, assessment of impacts for engineering interventions of preferred option, and preparation of environmental management plan (EMP) consisting of mitigation plan, monitoring plan, enhancement plan, disaster management plan, capacity building plan, procurement plan, and cost estimates.

Undertake a preliminary environmental assessment for a proposed common effluent treatment plant construction covering the issues of natural resources like, air, water, and land, human health and safety, and social aspects like, involuntary resettlement, indigenous peoples, and cultural property. Carrying out an environmental feasibility study for traffic bypass scheme for the Dhaka Eastern Bypass Road project. The study included an initial assessment, both environmental and social, for the proposed alternative alignment and junction locations of the bypass during the first phase. The second phase included refining of the initial assessment for the preferred route and formulation of necessary mitigation measures for the negative impacts based on local environmental conditions and social acceptance in the area.

Coordinate activities for designating ecologically critical areas, if required any, along the stretch of the river, & proposing policies, regulatory laws, bylaws, etc. Plan and implement training programs for capacity improvement for industrial pollution control measures, & awareness increasing for conserving river ecosystem in Bangladesh.
