Running for a Better Oakland

Running for a Better Oakland (RBO) is a youth development nonprofit that uses running as a tool for confidence, community, and long-term well-being. We provide free, inclusive running programs for Oakland youth, centered on physical health, mental resilience, and belonging. Through weekly practices, supportive adult mentors, and access to races across the Bay Area, students learn to set goals, build consistency, and carry confidence beyond the course. RBO removes barriers to participation by providing running shoes, race entries, mentorship, and a safe, welcoming environment. Each year, we support hundreds of students and families across Oakland. Our work is powered by volunteers, run mentors, donors, families, and community partners who believe in the power of movement to create opportunity and connection.
