Since 1989, Rainforest Foundation Norway has stood alongside Indigenous peoples and local communities in the world’s rainforests—protecting both their rights and the irreplaceable ecosystems they call home. Our work exists where environmental conservation meets human rights. We believe that the people who have safeguarded their forests for generations are the most effective protectors of these vital landscapes. That’s why we work in partnership with Indigenous and traditional forest communities, supporting them as they lead the way in defending their lands, cultures, and futures. The Rainforest Foundation is a global network made up of three independent national organisations—based in Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States—and the Rainforest Fund, which provides direct support to our shared initiatives and on-the-ground projects. United by a single mission, vision, and set of values, we work together to amplify local leadership and global impact. Our mission is to empower Indigenous and traditional peoples of the world’s rainforests in their efforts to protect their environment and uphold their rights by helping them: Secure and manage their natural resources in ways that sustain both their livelihoods and the health of their ecosystems; and Strengthen their ability to defend individual and collective rights, ensuring equitable access to essential services and a sustainable, self-determined future. Together, we’re not just protecting rainforests—we’re protecting the way of life, knowledge, and resilience that make them thrive.
