The apothecary Heinrich von Gimborn - name giver of the H. von Gimborn GmbH - founded in 1855 in Emmerich am Rhein a small pharmaceutical factory which developed rapidly. Their products have established themselves early as a successful brand. They were distributed inland and abroad. This included the popular gym licorice and fennel honey known as "star-bee". Products that, by the way, were available until the 70s of the 20th Century. Since the founding of the company in 1855 the name H. von Gimborn stands for quality and highest standards. Only from 1965 Gimborn became „Gimborn – The pet specialist”! Taking the English brand “Ipevet” under licence Gimborn entered the pet market. The brands Gimborn dog, Gimpet cat and Gimborn rodent were born. Biokat’s as the brand for cat litter was developed in the 80ies and from 1997 it became an important part of the brands in Emmerich. The strength of Gimborn is the locally based product development and manufacturing. In collaboration with major universities for veterinary medicine Gimborn developed products which are innovative and unique. For example the first lactose-free milk for cats came from Gimborn. Even at the addition of essential vitamins and minerals in snacks – for example taurine or l-carnitine – Gimborn has taken a leading-function. Today Gimborn has a staff of nearly 150 employees across Europe. Production facilities are based in Emmerich am Rhein (snacks and paste) and in Kelheim (Cat litter). Since September 2008, Penta Investment Group owns 100% of H. von Gimborn GmbH’s shares.
